Donald Trump sa uten omsvøp at verden må holde den nasjon ansvarlig som slapp koronaviruset løs på verden: Kina. Han kastet hansken mot både FN og Kina, som han sa samarbeidet om å holde viruset skjult.
“We must hold accountable the nation which unleashed this plague unto the world,” Trump said. “China.”
Det kan ha vært et veloverveid valg: FNs generalsekretær Guterrez advarte mot en ny kald krig, og president Xi Jinming forsikret at Kina bare ville ha samarbeid. Trump satte begge i relieff: De samarbeidet om å mørklegge virusets farlige natur.
Trump noted that the Chinese government and the World Health Organization (WHO) worked together to hide the true nature of the virus, falsely claiming that there was no evidence of human to human transmission and that people without symptoms would not spread the virus.
Trump kalte viruset for «Kina-viruset». Han sa at Kina gjorde seg ansvarlig for spredningen internasjonalt, da byen Wuhan ble lagt i innenrikspolitisk karantene, mens internasjonal luftfart fikk flyte fritt.
“In the earliest days of the virus, China locked down travel domestically while allowing flights to leave China and infect the world,” Trump said.
Ved å si dette foran en hel verden, viser Trump at USA krever at Kina påtar seg ansvaret.
Han sier det også fordi det er valgkamp. Biden vil ikke gi Kina ansvaret og vil ikke kalle Kina en fiende. Trump vet at Kina-kortet går hjem hos velgerne.
