One eyewitness at yesterday’s attack in Glasgow, Jackie Kennedy, 46, a beautician from the city, described how she watched one of the occupants of the car douse himself in petrol and set himself alight.

He had a big smirk on his face. He lifted up what appeared to be a five-litre drum, which I think had petrol in it, and set himself on fire,” she said. “His clothes were melting in front of my very eyes.

The police tried to pounce on him but he fought back and was struggling with them. It was only when a member of the public punched him in the face that the police managed to restrain him. The police were trying to spray CS gas in his face but it was not working. I can’t believe what I have just seen. I have no doubt this was a terrorist attack.”

Hazmi [flykaprer, American Airlines Flight 77], however, was not so discreet. He telephoned his former San Diego companion, Mohdar Abdullah [Jemenittisk student] in late August. Several bits of evidence indicate that others in Abdullah’s circle may have received word that something big would soon happen. As noted earlier, Abdullah’s behavior changed noticeably. Prior to September 11, both he and Yazeed al Salmi [Saudier, bodde sammen med flykaprere i San Diego] suddenly became intent on proceeding with their planned marriages. One witness quotes Salmi as commenting after the 9/11 attacks, “I knew they were going to do something, that is why I got married.” Moreover, as of August 2001, Iyad Kreiwesh [daglig leder, bensinstasjon] and other employees at the Texaco station where Hazmi had worked suddenly were anticipating attention from law enforcement authorities in the near future. Finally, early on the morning of September 10, Abdullah, Osama Awadallah [Jemenitt, jobbet med Hamzi], Omar Bakarbashat [Saudier, privat engelsklærer for Hazmi], and others behaved suspiciously at the gas station. According to the witness, after the group met, Awadallah said “it is finally going to happen” as the others celebrated by giving each other high fives.

Ingenting skjer helt i et vakuum. Noen visste. Og lot være å si i fra.
