Kansler Gerhard Schröder vil under en tale i det jødiske museum i Berlin lørdag slå fast at regjeringen ikke vil la det utvikle seg parallellsamfunn på tysk jord.

Drapet på Theo van Gogh gir gjenlyd over hele Europa. Schröder advarer og sier slike hendelser kan utvikle seg til en konflikt mellom kulturer.

«On the one hand we cannot allow ourselves to be pushed into a clash of cultures — of civilisations — because of this crime,» said the speech in honour of former German President Johannes Rau to be delivered at Berlin’s Jewish museum.
«But on the other hand, the many Muslims who live with us and want to live with us cannot stand by without participating. They must clearly commit to our laws and our democracy.»
People of other cultures who live in Germany must be prepared at the very least to learn the langague and in turn society must be willing to accommodate them, the speech said.
Germany will continue to fight against all forms of racism, right-wing extremism and anti-semitism, it added.
«A democracy can tolerate neither lawless spheres nor parallel societies,» Schroeder will say in his speech. (reuters har fått en forhåndskopi)
