A man has confessed to making a death threat against a Belgian senator of Moroccan descent who had criticised radical Islam, the Belgian Interior Minister Patrick Dewael said on Friday.
Socialist senator Mimount Bousakla had been warned she would be «ritually slaughtered», and on Wednesday authorities said she had been put under police protection.
A Justice Ministry spokeswoman said a man had been arrested overnight in connection with the case, but that no further details were available.
«He has confessed,» Dewael told VRT radio.
Justice Minister Laurette Onkelinx and two other politicians have also been targeted by death threats in an apparently separate case, amid concerns that racial tension in the Netherlands might be spilling over into neighbouring Belgium. (reuters)
