ROME, July 14 (Reuters) – Terrorist cells in Italy are ready to strike the country, the head of the parliamentary committee on secret services said on Thursday, adding however that there was no information about a specific plot.
«Today there are already logistics cells (in Italy) potentially able to strike,» Enzo Bianco told a news conference after a closed-door committee briefing with the head of Italy’s secret services, Nicolo Pollari.
«Which is why we think, without being alarmist, that our country is at risk,» he added.
«We know that Italy is one of the possible targets of terrorist action. There is not precise information that suggests an attack is being prepared. We don’t know where, we don’t know when, we don’t know how.»
In the wake of the deadly bombings in London last week, Interior Minister Giuseppe Pisanu warned that terrorism was «knocking on Italy’s door» and urged parliament to adopt a series of measures to prevent an attack.(reuters)
