Jonas Gahr Støre ber verdens ledere om 16,8 milliarder til «vaksinedugnad» til fordel for Verdens helseorganisasjon, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation og andre globale helseorganisasjoner. – Vi har alle interesse av å få pandemien under kontroll. Ingen er trygge før alle er trygge, sier Støre.

Støre mener det er god økonomisk politikk å investere i den globale pandemikoalisjonen ACT-A, The Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, som arbeider for å gi vaksiner og medisinsk utstyr til trengende land. ACT-A er underlagt Verdens helseorganisasjon og partnere:

The Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, is a groundbreaking global collaboration to accelerate development, production, and equitable access to COVID-19 tests, treatments, and vaccines.

Launched at the end of April 2020, at an event co-hosted by the Director-General of the World Health Organization, the President of France, the President of the European Commission, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator brings together governments, scientists, businesses, civil society, and philanthropists and global health organizations (the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, CEPI, FIND, Gavi, The Global Fund, Unitaid, Wellcome, the WHO, and the World Bank). Following the ACT-Accelerator launch, UNICEF and PAHO became delivery partners for COVAX, the vaccines pillar.

Blant partnerne er altså the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Verdensbanken og The Global Fund.

Sammen med Sør-Afrikas president Cyril Ramaphosa, generaldirektør Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus i WHO og FNs generalsekretær António Guterres lanserte Støre en kampanje onsdag, for å be flere ledere om penger til ACT-A.

– Felles investeringer i ACT-A er i vår alles interesse. Det er det politisk riktige å gjøre. Det er god økonomisk politikk. Å investere i ACT-A er en investering i global helsesikkerhet til felles beste, sier han.

ACT-A ber om 16,8 milliarder innen juni. I desember 2021 ga Norge 2 milliarder kroner til formålet, ifølge NTB.
