Fra Washington forlyder det at Barack Obama vil erklære at Bashar al-Assads tid er omme og at han må gå av. Meldingen er ikke ny, og spørsmålet kan stilles om hvorfor Obama ikke våger å gjøre mot Assad det han ganske raskt gjorde mot Mubarak.

Assad står ankeldypt i blod og viser ingen tegn til å snu. Likevel har ikke Obama-administrasjonen gått lenger enn å si at han har mistet sin legitimitet. Det siste skrittet: avgang, nøler man med.

Nå varsles nye sanksjoner, mot enkeltpersoner, banker og mobilselskaper.
