Almost three months after the brutal murder of controversial Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh, an Amsterdam court will on Wednesday hold the first procedural hearing in the case against his alleged killer Mohammed Bouyeri, whom the prosecution says is a Muslim extremist.
Bouyeri is charged with murder, attempted murder and membership of a terrorist organisation. After having answered some questions from investigators shortly after the murder, Bouyeri has since kept silent. His lawyer said he would not be present at the hearing at Amsterdam’s high-security court nicknamed «the bunker».
Wednesday’s hearing is likely to be purely procedural with the prosecution summing up the investigation so far. It is expected that the judges will refer the case back to the examining judge to continue the investigation.(afp)
