In his latest claim on December 3 in Isfahan, noting the presence of American troops in Iraq, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said, «It is true that these imperialists are after the country’s oil and wealth, but they have an underlying rationale based on which they operate. But they don’t reveal that in the news. We are in possession of some of their documents. They believe that someone from the Prophet of Islam’s family has appeared in this region who will destroy the roots of the evil-doers in the world. They have planned all of this to prevent the Imam’s appearance, and they know that the Iranian people have set the stage for his presence and want his rule.»
Mehdi Karoubi blasted Ahmadinejad’s remarks about America’s attempt to prevent the appearance of the hidden Imam for being an «insult to religion.»
Slike uttalelser blir sjelden rapportert av NRK eller norske medier generelt. Kan det være fordi de er ubehagelige og reiser spørsmål om ledernes tilregnelighet? Hvordan håndterer man en president som tror at presidenten i USA er som kong Herodes i juleevangeliet?
Det kan være en trøst at også mange iranere er bekymret. Selv konservative religiøse mener Ahmadinejad har en skrue løs. Problemet er at han ikke er alene. Noen mener han står i direkte forbindelse med den skjulte imam og Allah.

Disregarding criticisms from politicians and religious figures, ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi, the spiritual leader of the hardline Shiites, said, «When the president receives the supreme leader’s blessing, obeying him is like obeying God.»
