Skal vi forstå islam og muslimer bør vi kanskje rette blikket mot minoritetene, som koptere i Egypt, og berberne i Algerie. Berberne er muslimer, men har en egen kultur, et vakkert landskap, et folk som har opplevd undertrykkelse og derfor personer som ser med en viss avstand på den arabisk-islamske kulturen. En av dem er den anerkjente scholar Kamal Nait-Zerrad, professor i berbernes språk, litteratur og sivilisasjon ved Det franske nasjonalinstitutt for orientalske språk og sivilisasjoner, med en rekke fagbøker bak seg. Han sier franskmennene lever i en illusjon. De inngår en rekke små kompromisser, så større, og til slutt gir man etter på viktige punkter som ytringsfrihet. Han tror det bare er et spørsmål før blasfemi blir straffbart. Hvordan kan dette skje? Islam har ingen begreper om at muslimer lever i mindretall. Det er en utenkelig tanke. Hele systemet er konstruert for å kontrollere, gjennomsyre hele samfunnet. Derfor består det et stadig press for å utvide grensene. Islam har ikke godtatt at den er en religion på linje med andre, men oppfatter seg selv som den suveren.

Det er den franske sekulære staten og det sekulære samfunnet som er i fare. Hvorfor denne stor lydhørhet for islamistene, spør Nait-Zerrad. Det er mange nordafrikanere som ikke er muslimer, og de slipper ikke til.

From small compromises, there has been an imperceptible slippage into large compromises of principle. Det er de indre selvmotsigelsene i islam som idag utspilles i Europa. Det trengs en stor grunnleggende reformasjon, men hvem skal ta initiativet, hvor skal den komme fra? Det bør være noen med autoritet stor nok til å utfordre noen grunnleggende oppfatninger.

«For Islam, The Christian Or Jewish Non-Muslim Can Only Be A Dhimmi»

«The fact is that Islam never foresaw a situation in which it would be in the minority. So long as one has not understood this, one cannot understand the Islamist movements. This is symptomatic of the Muslim vision of man, of human relations, and of other religions. For Islam, the Christian or Jewish non-Muslim can only be a dhimmi. Fighting against infidels is commanded in the Koran in these words [9:29]: ‘Fight those who do not believe in Allah and in the last day, who do not forbid that which Allah and his Messenger declared forbidden, and who do not practice the religion of truth, among those who have received the Scripture! Fight them until they pay the jizya (poll tax), directly, when they are humiliated.’ The jizya is reserved only for those who have the Scripture – that is, Jews, Christians, and to a lesser extent, Zoroastrians. As for the others – pagans, animists, free-thinkers, agnostics, and atheists – they have no other recourse but to convert to Islam or die.
