De reaktioner som mitt deltagande i SION:s konferens fört med sig kan med fördel jämföras med en konferens i konstvärlden organiserad av Berlinbiennalen för ett par månader sedan. Som en del av biennalprogrammet inbjöds terroriststämplade organisationer att framföra och diskutera sina åsikter:
“The first edition of the New World Summit in Berlin will take place on the 4th and 5th of May in an alternative parliament with both political and juridical representatives of organizations placed on international terrorist lists. The parliament is situated in the Sophiensaele in Berlin, Germany.
Day 1 – May 4th: Reflections on the Closed Society
Each of the speakers will introduce the goals of the organization they represent and then discuss the existence of the terrorist lists and its implications, from both personal and political perspectives. The lectures will allow the audience to become familiar with each organization, its goals and the limits it was confronted with concerning political participation. The first day there will be no questions from the public.
Day 2 – May 5th: Proposals for the Open Society
The speakers will elaborate on what they believe to be the right political reform concerning the existence of terrorist lists and their ideal of political participation and political representation. Then the audience will be able to ask the speakers questions and engage them in debate.”
Bland de utvalda organisationerna återfinns t ex al-Qaida Irak som genom en fatwa har satt ett pris på $ 100 000 för mitt huvud. Och Al-Shabab som flera gånger försäkrat att de skall mörda mig.
Den holländske konstnären Jonas Staal (15.608) motiverar programmet genom att han vill undersöka demokratins gränser och demokratins sätt att utesluta vissa röster. Man kan läsa mer och höra honom förklara HÄR.
Man skulle kunna tro att detta initiativ borde medföra ett häftigt fördömande från alla möjliga håll. Legitimeras inte terroristgrupperna genom att inbjudas att delta i en officiell biennal finansierad genom statliga medel och genom bland annat Volkswagen som sponsor? Men några större protester har inte kunnat förmärkas. Konstkritikerna har varit avvaktande som t ex Alexander Forbes på Artinfo: ”It’s undeniably an interesting project, but in the context of the biennale, again, it just feels strange. Even more so because he said, ’We could only do it because it’s in an artistic context.’ Statements like this make the exhibition seem ever less about art that changes the world, and ever more about political action or discourse functioning under a thin veil of aesthetics.”
Lägg märke till att kritiken är moderat, ett intressant projekt men inte helt lyckat. Jämför man detta med mitt, för man nog erkänna, obetydliga inhopp i SION, kan man inte mycket annat än att peka på hyckleri. Inga brösttoner om unkna åsikter och dåligt omdöme. Ingen ”guilt by association”.
Personligen har jag inga problem med den här konferensen. Konsten skall ha full rätt att tränga in och estetisera starkt kontroversiella frågor. Men varför detta hyckleri? Och vad som för den sansade kan vara värt att fundera över är ”Att beskriva världen är detsamma som att förändra den”, vilket Dan Jönsson (i ett annat sammanhang) anför i dagens DN. Som alternativ till att fördöma.
