Abu Hafs al-Shahri, descri­bed as a Saudi Ara­bian natio­nal who was chief of ope­ra­tions for al-Qaeda inside Pakis­tan, was kil­led in Wazi­ristan on Sun­day, accor­ding to US offi­ci­als.
The death of anot­her senior al-Qaeda figure comes after the kil­ling of Ati­yah abd al-Rahman, the organisation’s second in com­mand, last month
“It has been con­fir­med that al-Qaeda’s chief of Pakis­tan ope­ra­tions, Abu Hafs al-Shahri, was kil­led ear­lier this week in Wazi­ristan, Pakis­tan,” a US offi­cial said
“Shahri’s death will furt­her degrade al-Qaeda’s abi­lity to recover from the death last month of al-Qaeda’s num­ber two, Ati­yah, because of his ope­ra­tions expe­ri­ence and con­nec­tions wit­hin the group.
“Shahri’s death rem­oves a key threat inside Pakis­tan, where he col­la­bo­rated closely with the Tehrik-e Tali­ban Pakis­tan to con­duct coor­di­nated attacks.”
