Muslim Council of Britain fordømte tirsdag i sterke ordelag angrepene i London og Glasgow, og oppfordret muslimer til å samarbeide med politi og myndigheter for å knekke ekstremismen som brer seg.
This morning the Muslim Council of Britain gave a press conference in which it too condemned the terror plots and the rise of extremism.
Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, secretary general of the council, said: “Let us be absolutely clear about this, that those who seek to deliberately kill or maim innocent people are the enemies of all of us.
“There is no cause whatsoever that could possibly justify such barbarity. Those who engage in such murderous actions and those that provide support for them are the enemies of all, Muslims and non Muslims, and they stand against our shared values in the UK.”
Dr Daoud Abdullah, the deputy general secretary, told the meeting: “There is a radicalisation taking place in our communities and this is a long term problem. We will work together with our partners in civil society, including the police and other faith groups.”

A number of Muslim leaders have made clear how shocked and offended their community has been by these incidents. But given the state of public anger and alarm over the series of failed attacks, and the sense that it was only the most extraordinary good fortune that prevented them from ending in carnage, it may no longer be enough for British Muslims to offer verbal condemnations after the fact.
