Frankrike har ikke tjent noe på sin motstand mot krigen hos vanlige irakere. Le Mondes utsendte fant at irakerne gjerne må væe sinte på USA, men de forakter i enda høyere grad Frankrike som i deres øyne bare tenker på sine egne interesser. Det som har fått begeret til å renne over er at Frankrike ikke løfter en finger for gjenoppbyggingen.
Tilbakemeldingen fra irakerne på Frankrikes opptreden er interessant lesning. Hva har da Paris fått ut av sin motstand, annet en å vifte med fjærende som en påfugl på verdensscenen?
“Iraqis think France doubly betrayed them, first with Saddam, then with the American occupation. France cares only about its anti-American position. It is forgetting the Iraqis. Chirac and de Villepin must understand that no Iraqi finds their position courageous… What did France do to help Iraq free itself from the dictator and then to help Iraq regain its sovereignty? Nothing!”
