Al-Qaida-løytnant tatt i Irak

Kur­diske sol­da­ter har pågre­pet, Has­san Ghul, en av Al-Qaidas mest kjente løyt­nan­ter, som rap­por­terte direkte til koor­di­na­to­ren for 911, Kha­lid Shaikh Mohammed.

Den ame­ri­kanske gene­ra­len San­chez sier det er bevis på at Al-Qaida prø­ver å få fot­feste i Irak.

“The cap­ture of Ghul is pretty strong proof that al-Qaida is try­ing to gain a foot­hold here to con­ti­nue their mur­derous cam­paigns,” San­chez said.

Ghul was arrested by U.S.-allied Kurdish for­ces while try­ing to enter Iraq from Iran. Offi­ci­als in Wash­ing­ton reported his arrest Satur­day, descri­bing him as a senior recrui­ter for al-Qaida who reported directly to Kha­lid Shaikh Moham­med, one of the architects of the Sept. 11 ter­ro­rist attacks who was cap­tu­red in March.

Ut fra et norsk per­spek­tiv kan det også ten­kes at Ghul har noe å si om Zarqawi og Ansar al-Islam. Det skal slett ikke ute­luk­kes. Fengs­lings­ti­den for mul­lah Kre­kar kan bli forlenget.
