Dagen etter Irak-krigen er alle­rede her for Israel og pale­sti­nerne, ana­ly­se­rer Yoel Mar­cus i Ha’aretz. Når Sad­dams regime fal­ler, må Bush-administrasjonen repa­rere rela­sjo­nene til Europa og ara­ber­lan­dene. Det vil skje ved “inten­sive efforts to solve the Pale­sti­nian pro­blem”, skri­ver Mar­cus. Løs­nin­gen vil være basert på “vei­kar­tet”, og det for­ut­set­ter opp­ret­tel­sen av en pale­stinsk stat i to faser, avslut­tet i 2005. Sha­ron vil prøve å tre­nere dette, men kan få alvor­lige pro­ble­mer med Bush, antar Mar­cus; han kan få merke, som Ara­fat, at Bush ikke aksep­te­rer løg­ner: “The weak spot in our rela­tion­ship with Bush is the sett­le­ment issue and the dan­ger that Sha­ron and his pro­mi­ses will be writ­ten off as unre­li­able”. Mar­cus kon­klu­de­rer med at tiden nå er inne for kon­struk­tive inn­spill fra Israel, og: “There is no way in the world we will achieve a peace agreement wit­hout eva­cua­ting most of the sett­le­ments in Judea, Sama­ria and Gaza. That is the core of the road map that will lead us to peace and security.”
